“網(wǎng)紅”，即網(wǎng)絡紅人，是指在網(wǎng)絡世界(cyberspace)里受網(wǎng)民(netizen)追捧而迅速走紅的人。

“網(wǎng)紅”走紅的原因林林總總，有的因藝術才華而成名，有的因搞怪作秀而成名，有的因顏值出眾而成名，有的因網(wǎng)絡推手(internet marketer)的策劃而成名，也有的因為某個事件或行為無心插柳而意外成名。

“網(wǎng)紅”現(xiàn)象并非中國所特有，在英語國家也是常見的網(wǎng)絡現(xiàn)象。因此，“網(wǎng)紅”在英語中完全可以找到完美的對應表達。

Sensation可以指引起網(wǎng)絡轟動的人或事件。比如：

“網(wǎng)紅”來得快，去得也快，常?？梢月牭?strong style="outline: 0px;max-width: 100%;box-sizing: border-box !important;overflow-wrap: break-word !important;">“三月網(wǎng)紅”(three-month celebrity)的說法，這是在嘲笑某“網(wǎng)紅”紅不過三個月就會迅速過氣，被人遺忘在茫茫網(wǎng)絡中，但有時也用作自黑、自嘲。因此這類“網(wǎng)紅”也被稱為instant online celebrities，或nine-day wonder (只流行九天的一個奇跡、迅速過氣的人或事)。

美國著名藝術家安迪·沃霍爾(Andy Warhol)曾將這種倏忽即逝的名氣稱為15 minutes of fame，即只有15分鐘的成名時間。最近，這一說法又有了新的延伸：“On the Web, everyone will be famous to 15 people.”(在網(wǎng)上，只要有15個粉絲，人人都可以成名。)

在“網(wǎng)紅”現(xiàn)象中，一首詩、一篇文章、一張照片、一首歌曲往往可以起到關鍵作用。
